ABOUT THIS PLACE

Rapids Water Park opened in 1979 at 6566 North Military Trail in Riviera Beach with four slides on four acres. It now covers 30 acres and holds 42 slides and attractions, and about 400,000 people come through in a season. The rides split into two kinds. For people who want the drop, Big Thunder and Black Thunder are funnel slides where the raft runs up the wall and back, Brain Drain is a seven-story slide with a trapdoor under your feet at the start, and Raging Rapids takes four riders in one raft. For everyone else there is Splash Hill with eight gentler slides, a wave pool called Big Surf, and a lazy river that doubles as the way to get from one end of the park to the other without walking. The park runs seasonally from March to November, which matters if you are planning a winter trip. It is owned by EPR Properties and run by Premier Parks. It has turned up on film as well: part of Donnie Brasco was shot here in 1997, and music videos have used it since
