Elliott Museum

Martin County · Atlantic Coast

Forty-eight thousand square feet at 825 Northeast Ocean Boulevard on Hutchinson Island, opened in March 2013.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

Harmon Elliott founded the original museum in 1961 as a tribute to his father Sterling Elliott, an inventor whose patents ran from a quadricycle to the addressing machine. That first building was pulled down in 2011, too small and structurally past saving, and this one replaced it. More than ninety vehicles are held here, including motorcycles, trucks and an aircraft, and among them is one of the largest collections anywhere of Ford Model A and Model AA commercial vehicles. A robotic racking system fetches a chosen car out of the stack and puts it on a turntable, which is worth seeing work whichever car it brings. There are classic wooden boats, maritime material and a baseball collection as well. The Historical Society of Martin County runs it, takes around fifty thousand visitors a year, and has held the Classics at the Beach car show each spring since 1996. Robert Steele is president and chief executive. In 2025 the museum added a holographic installation in which the British archaeologist Howard Carter describes finding the tomb of Tutankhamun, which is the sort of thing this museum does rather than sticking to cars
