IMAG History & Science Center
Lee County · Gulf Coast
A hands-on science and history museum at 2000 Cranford Avenue in Fort Myers.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
It opened as the Imaginarium Science Center and was renamed in March 2017 when local history was added to what it covers, which is why the two subjects now sit side by side under one roof. The aquariums are the part children remember: the USS Mohawk tank, the lionfish tank, Fisheye Lagoon and touch tanks where rays and small sharks can be handled under supervision. Elsewhere there are dinosaur and fossil displays, exhibits on the Calusa who lived on this coast for centuries before Europeans arrived, live animals, and hands-on stations covering weather, engineering, motion, water and nanotechnology. Science on a Sphere projects the planet onto a suspended globe, and a Google Earth wall lets visitors fly anywhere they like. There is a three-dimensional theater. The Snack House cafe, open from midday until three, is fitted out with memorabilia from a Fort Myers diner of the same name that ran through the 1950s and 1960s. Open Monday to Saturday from ten until five, closed Tuesdays, and Sunday from midday until five
