It opened in October 2014 and was joined to the Lake Apopka Loop Trail the following year. From the tower the view runs out over Lake Apopka, the fourth largest lake in Florida, and on a clear day the Orlando skyline stands up on the far side of it. That combination is unusual: a genuine elevated view in a state that mostly has none, looking across open water at a city twenty miles away. Below the tower a winding path of four-tenths of a mile drops to the trailhead for the Lake Apopka Loop Trail, which runs more than twenty miles around the northern half of the lake and connects through to the wildlife drive. There is a pavilion and a set of educational kiosks beside the tower. It opens at seven in the morning and closes at dusk, every day.
