Collier County · South Florida & the Keys
The art museum of Artis-Naples, at 5833 Pelican Bay Boulevard, opened in 2000.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
Eugene Aubry, a Florida architect, designed the original thirty-thousand-square-foot building, and Weiss/Manfredi added eighteen thousand square feet more in 2020. The permanent collection runs to more than 3,500 works of twentieth and twenty-first century art, with American and Mexican modern art as its strength. Much of that arrived as whole collections rather than piece by piece: the Ahmet Ertegun collection of about three hundred modernist works in 1999, the Harry Pollak collection of Mexican art from 1900 to 1980 in 2002, the Bryna Prensky collection in 2007, the Olga Hirshhorn collection in 2013 and again in 2016, and the Paul and Charlotte Corddry collection in 2016. The museum is part of Artis-Naples, which is also home to the Naples Philharmonic, so a concert and an exhibition can be taken in on the same campus in an evening. Water damage from Hurricane Irma closed it from September 2017 until December 2019. Art After Hours runs the last Wednesday of each month from six until nine, free to enter
