Naples Botanical Garden

Collier County · South Florida & the Keys

170 acres of garden founded in 1993, built around the plants of the tropics.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

The organizing idea is a band of the earth. Everything grown here comes from the ecosystems lying between the 26th parallel north and the 26th parallel south, which is the latitude Naples itself sits on. That gives the garden its range, and it is why a visitor moves between continents in an afternoon without the planting looking assembled. Around fifty thousand plants of more than a thousand species grow here, arranged across seven distinct habitats. A good part of the acreage is not formal garden at all but preserve, kept as native Florida habitat with trails through it, so the cultivated and the wild sit alongside each other rather than the wild being cleared away. The American Public Gardens Association recognized it for garden excellence in 2017, and it was the youngest garden ever to be recognized that way, which for a place founded in 1993 is quick work. It stands on Bayshore Drive, a few minutes from downtown Naples and from the bay
