Sawgrass Recreation Park
Broward County · South Florida & the Keys
Family-run airboat tours out into the Everglades off US 27, with rescued reptiles kept on the site.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
Sawgrass Recreation Park runs airboat tours into the Everglades from the western edge of Broward County, on US 27 at Weston, and it is family owned and operated. Several kinds of trip are offered: standard airboat adventures, private and exclusive runs, eco tours, and a Gator Nights tour after dark. On land the park keeps adopted and rescued reptiles in its exhibit areas, and visitors can meet a baby alligator. There is food on site at the Gator Grill. US 27 is the western edge of Broward County: the built-up part stops at the road and the Everglades begins on the other side of it, which is worth knowing for anyone looking at property out this way. The Gator Nights trip goes out after dark, which is when alligators are easiest to find, their eyes throwing back the light from a lamp. The reptiles in the exhibit are animals that were given up or rescued and cannot be put back in the wild, so the exhibit is a consequence of the rescue work rather than a collection assembled for show
