How do I get a U.S. passport in Florida?

Adults getting a first U.S. passport apply in person with Form DS-11 at a passport acceptance facility, such as a post office or library.

You also apply in person if your old passport was lost, stolen or damaged, was issued more than 15 years ago, or was issued when you were under 16. Other adults can renew by mail or online. The U.S. Department of State, which issues passports, has a locator for acceptance facilities on its website, travel.state.gov.

Bring proof of U.S. citizenship on paper, such as a U.S. birth certificate, a full-validity, undamaged U.S. passport, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad, or a Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship, plus a photocopy of it. Bring a physical photo ID, most often a driver license, and a copy of its front and back on single-sided 8.5 by 11 inch paper. If your ID is from another state, as it may be after a move, bring a second photo ID. Bring one passport photo, and do not staple it to the form.

On the department's page for adult applicants, a first passport book is a $130 application fee plus a $35 acceptance fee, and a passport card is $30 plus $35. Faster processing is $60 more, and 1 to 3 day delivery of the passport to you is $26.87 more. Fees for children and for renewals are on the department's fee chart.

For international travel within 14 calendar days, or a foreign visa needed within 28 days, the department's Miami Passport Agency, at 1501 Biscayne Boulevard, Suite 400, Miami, sees people by appointment. If you have not applied yet, book online. If you have already applied, call 877-487-2778, weekdays 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and weekends 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Eastern.
