What are the area codes in Florida?

Florida's area codes are 239, 305, 321, 324, 352, 386, 407, 448, 561, 645, 656, 689, 727, 728, 754, 772, 786, 813, 850, 863, 904, 941 and 954.

Before 1995, Florida had only four area codes: 305, 407, 813 and 904. The others have been added since then.

These codes share an area

  • Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys: 305, 786 and 645
  • Palm Beach County: 561 and 728
  • Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties and parts of Lake and Volusia: 407, 321 and 689
  • Brevard County: 321
  • Tampa and Hillsborough County: 813 and 656
  • Jacksonville and northeast Florida, including St. Augustine, Fernandina Beach, Orange Park, Macclenny and Starke: 904 and 324
  • 18 counties of the Panhandle, including the cities of Pensacola, Panama City and Tallahassee: 850 and 448

The other codes, 239, 352, 386, 727, 754, 772, 863, 941 and 954, cover the rest of the state. The Public Service Commission's area code map shows where each one is.

In recent years, most new codes have been overlays. An overlay puts a new code over the same area as an existing one. People keep the numbers they have, and new numbers may be given the new code. Where there is an overlay, local calls need all 10 digits, the area code plus the number. 911 is still three digits, and so are 211, 311, 411, 511, 611, 711 and 811 where they are offered.

The Florida Public Service Commission is the state agency that publishes Florida's area code guide and map. Its toll-free number is 1-800-342-3552.
