Lake Okahumpka Park

Sumter County · Central Florida

Sumter County's park on the shore of Lake Okahumpka sits just off State Road 44 east of Wildwood.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

The address is 6085 East State Road 44, Wildwood, and there is no charge to enter. A wide paved path runs from the parking area toward the water, flat enough for a stroller or a wheelchair and long enough for a real walk. A separate off-road bicycle trail loops through the scrub and pine behind it, cut for riders who want dirt rather than pavement. There is a boat launch for the lake itself, which sits about fifty-six feet above sea level and has been treated over the years to hold back hydrilla, an invasive water weed. A disc golf course is laid out across the open ground, and the county parks office confirms it gets regular play. Picnic tables and open lawn make the park a common choice for family gatherings, and Sumter County schedules public events here through the year. The parks department can be reached at 352-689-4400. Wildwood is a few minutes west, and Interstate 75 and Florida's Turnpike both pass nearby, so the park is an easy stop for anyone crossing the middle of the state
