St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum

St. Johns County · Atlantic Coast

Over 800 genuine pirate artifacts at 12 South Castillo Drive, including the only authenticated pirate treasure chest known to exist.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

Pat Croce collected this over years and moved it here from Key West, opening in St. Augustine on December 8, 2010. It is a real collection rather than a themed walkthrough, and the objects are what make it worth the money. Thomas Tew's treasure chest is here, the only pirate treasure chest anywhere that has been authenticated. So is one of the three surviving Jolly Roger flags known in the world, and Blackbeard's blunderbuss, and gold recovered from the wreck of Queen Anne's Revenge. More than 800 artifacts are laid out across 48 exhibit areas. Alongside the cases are the things built for visitors: eighteenth-century cannons that can be fired electronically, and a three-dimensional audio show made for this building by a former Disney Imagineer and shown nowhere else. Guides in pirate dress run tours on weekends. It stands a short walk from the Castillo de San Marcos, which is the fort the real pirates would have had to get past
