Military Museum of North Florida

Clay County · North Florida & First Coast

A volunteer-run military museum in Green Cove Springs where the vehicles have no ropes around them and a fighter cockpit is open to climb into.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

The Military Museum of North Florida was established in 2007 and opened to the public in 2008 in Green Cove Springs. It gives its subject as more than 230 years of service, and describes itself as a living record of the people who served rather than a case of objects. The exhibits run from the Revolutionary War through Iraq and Afghanistan. The collection holds ship models, military vehicles, uniforms, weapons, equipment and flags, along with naval aviation gear, military communications equipment and wreckage from a Hellcat fighter. A permanent D-Day exhibit was added in 2013. What people tend to remember is how close the museum lets them get: visitors can walk up to the vehicles with no barrier in the way and climb into a fighter jet cockpit. In 2013 the museum took part of the collection to the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway. It runs on donations and volunteers rather than public money. The museum is at 990 Roland Avenue in Green Cove Springs and opens Wednesday through Saturday from 10 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon. It asks groups to telephone ahead, because tour availability changes
