A nightly rate is not the price of the stay, and a scouting trip has questions a vacation does not.
Choose a county to compare distinct hotels, locations and trip styles.
A hotel at 6100 Wave Hotel Drive in Lake Nona, in the southeast corner of Orlando, with three restaurants and four bars on the property and guest access to the Lake Nona Performance Club next door. Boxi Park, a climbing gym and several independent restaurants sit in the same walkable development. A base for Lake Nona rather than for the theme parks.
A downtown hotel at 325 South Orange Avenue, on the corner of Orlando's central business district and a short walk from the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, the Kia Center and Lake Eola. It has a rooftop pool and lounge, a bar, a rotunda with nightly grand piano performances, and rooms hung with work by a local artist. Meeting and wedding space is on site.
A resort at 10100 Dream Tree Boulevard in Lake Buena Vista, on Walt Disney World ground, with a five-acre water park, an adults-only pool, a spa, tennis, a children's club at no charge and a rooftop steakhouse that looks out on the nightly fireworks. It suits a family who want the parks close but a quiet base away from them.
A large resort at 4040 Central Florida Parkway in south Orlando, sharing 500 acres with The Ritz-Carlton Orlando. On the grounds are seven restaurants, a water park with a lazy river and three slides, an eighteen-hole golf course laid out by Greg Norman, and a spa. It suits a family or a conference that wants everything on one property.
A large hotel at 9801 International Drive, on the International Drive corridor, with meeting rooms and ballrooms, a swimming pool, a fitness center, a spa and a business center. Its restaurants include an Italian steakhouse and a sushi restaurant. It is built for conventions, and it is the practical base for anyone whose reason to be in Orlando is a show.
A three-room bed and breakfast in an 1885 Queen Anne Victorian farmhouse at 851 Lake Avenue in Maitland, standing on eight acres above Lake Eulalia with gardens, mature oaks and a certified wildlife habitat. Each room has its own bathroom and breakfast is included. It is about ten minutes north of downtown Orlando and next to Winter Park.
A Disney Vacation Club resort at 1080 Esplanade Avenue, in the Epcot area of Walt Disney World, open since December 2019, with 489 studios and one-, two- and three-bedroom villas, the largest sleeping twelve. It has a main pool, a quieter second pool, a children's splash area, four places to eat including a rooftop restaurant, and its own Skyliner gondola station to Epcot and Hollywood Studios.
Walt Disney World's campground, at 4510 Fort Wilderness Trail, with tent and pop-up sites, full hook-up sites, and premium sites on concrete pads that take a recreational vehicle up to sixty feet. Separate cabins sleep six and have a kitchen. There are two pools, archery, fishing, trail and carriage rides, bicycle and golf cart rental, and a boat to the Magic Kingdom.

Choose the shortest format that still lets you test ordinary life without racing from one end of Florida to another.
Choose one county and two communities. Use day one for essential routes, day two for neighborhoods and housing, and day three for repeat drives and unresolved questions.
Split the stay between two county areas. Give each finalist two ordinary days, then reserve the final day to revisit the strongest community.
Use two lodging bases rather than crossing the region every day. Compare no more than three counties and protect time for unplanned discoveries.
Leave at the time you would normally travel and use the likely work route.
Drive to the hospital, primary-care area or specialist you expect to use.
Test groceries, pharmacy, fuel and ordinary services—not only dining and attractions.
Measure the full route, parking and realistic departure-time burden.
Check beach, event or tourism traffic when that pattern affects the community.
See lighting, noise, access and neighborhood conditions after dark.
