Your homestead exemption

    to file with the county property appraiser, for a home you owned and lived in on January 1. In 2026 it takes as much as $51,411 off the assessed value.

    Once the home is homesteaded, its assessed value can rise no more than 3% a year, or the change in the consumer price index if that is lower.
