WATER & COAST

Peters Point Beachfront Park

Nassau County · North Florida & First Coast

A county beachfront park at 4600 Peters Point Road, about halfway down the ocean side of Amelia Island.

ABOUT THIS PLACE

The sand here is hard packed and fine, which makes it good for walking and running rather than only for sitting on, and wooden boardwalks carry people over some substantial dunes to reach it. Behind them are restrooms, indoor and outdoor showers, picnic tables and barbecues. Parking is free in a large paved lot, which fills early on weekends; driving onto the beach is limited to county residents, military and disabled visitors. Four lifeguard towers are staffed from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Fernandina Beach Parks and Recreation lends beach wheelchairs and floating chairs to anyone who needs one, booked on 904-310-3350 against a driving license and a refundable deposit. This is the one park on the island with horse trailer parking, limited to three trailers on the grass, and riders need papers showing a negative test. Walking on is possible at any hour, but cars cannot be left in the lot between midnight and sunrise
