WATER & COAST
Main Beach Park
Nassau County · North Florida & First Coast
The town beach of Fernandina Beach, on North Fletcher Avenue, run by the city.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
This is where the island goes rather than where visitors are steered, and it is laid out accordingly. There are two sand volleyball courts, a playground, a multipurpose court, a skate park, several picnic shelters, restrooms, outdoor showers, a run of beach accesses and a large grassed area for anyone who wants to throw a ball about. Lifeguards are on duty from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Around it sit the things that make an afternoon rather than an hour: Putt Putt Amelia Island, a family-run miniature golf course that has been going for more than sixty years, bicycle rental, and a row of casual places to eat facing the water. Parking is close to the sand. It is the northern end of the island's developed beach, within reach of the historic downtown on foot or by bicycle, so a day can take in both without moving the car
Not identified in this guide as an officially clothing-optional beach. This is a visit category, not a safety rating—check surf, lifeguards, water quality and posted rules.
