Register ahead with your county's emergency management office, or with the state's Special Needs Registry at snr.flhealthresponse.com or 888-353-8387.
Special needs shelters are run by county emergency management for people who rely on equipment such as oxygen, a ventilator or dialysis, who need a caregiver's help, or who have a chronic condition that needs medication or monitoring. Registering is not a guarantee of help, and it does not by itself qualify you for a special needs shelter, so ask the county how its shelter works and make a plan with your family as well. If you go, bring identification, at least 72 hours of medications, your medical devices with their batteries and chargers, mobility aids, hygiene items and any food your diet requires. Know your evacuation zone before the season starts.
