How long is the drive through the Florida Keys to Key West?

The Overseas Highway, the southern end of U.S. 1, runs 113 miles from Key Largo to Key West and crosses 42 bridges.

The longest is the Seven Mile Bridge at Marathon, 6.79 miles, which opened in 1982; beside it, a 2.2-mile section of the old bridge is open for walking, running, cycling and fishing and leads to Pigeon Key, the 5-acre island where up to 400 railroad workers lived from 1908 to 1912. The road follows the line of Henry Flagler's Over-Sea Railroad from Miami to Key West, finished in 1912 and closed after the hurricane of 1935. Alongside the highway, the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail has more than 90 miles of paved path for walking and cycling, on a planned 106-mile route, and uses 23 of the old railroad bridges.
