When is the Daytona 500?

It has opened the NASCAR season every February since 1982. The race is 200 laps on the 2.5-mile track, 500 miles in all. The speedway calls it "the Great American Race."

The speedway was completed in 1958, and the first Daytona 500 was run in February 1959. The 2027 race will be the 69th.

The 2027 race comes later in the month than the 2026 race, which was on Sunday, February 15, 2026. Tyler Reddick won that race with a last-lap pass, 0.308 seconds ahead of Ricky Stenhouse Jr. In 2026, Speedweeks at the speedway began on Wednesday, February 11, four days before the 500. The 2026 race sold out, and the 2025 race was the 10th sellout in a row, and the speedway says many fans make their travel and lodging plans well in advance.
