QUESTIONS THAT NAME THIS PLACE

Which Florida Springs Can You Swim In?

ABOUT THIS PLACE

The state gives the park as 380.84 acres. The spring is second magnitude, putting out about fourteen million gallons a day out of the Floridan Aquifer, and the water holds at sixty-eight degrees whatever the month, which means it feels cold in July and mild in January. You swim in the spring itself rather than in a pool beside it, and the basin is walled and easy to get into and out of. Two self-guided nature trails run from the swimming area, the Spring Run trail and the Sandy Creek trail, both short enough for a family walk. There are picnic areas and changing rooms. It became a state park on September 4, 1970. The name carries the old story that bathing in certain waters restores youth, which is why half the springs on this coast have a Ponce de Leon attached to them and why this one has been called a fountain of youth since long before it was a park
