WATER & COAST
Mashes Sands Beach
Wakulla County · Panhandle & Emerald Coast
A county beach and boat ramp on Ochlockonee Bay, at 901 Mashes Sands Road near Panacea.
ABOUT THIS PLACE
It is a small place, ringed by salt marsh rather than by condominiums, and it is one of the few spots in Wakulla County where you can drive up and walk straight onto sand. The water off the beach is shallow and warm, which suits small children and does not suit anyone looking for surf. The boat ramp, a little up the road at number 801, gives access to Ochlockonee Bay and out to the Gulf, and it is one of the busier launches in the county. A fishing pier runs out from the beach; it was damaged by Hurricane Michael and has been through reconstruction, so check with the county before counting on it. There is a mobile restroom on site. The beach and pier are open from six in the morning until midnight. The salt marsh around it holds wading birds, and sunset over the bay is the reason many local people drive out. Wakulla County Parks answers at 850-745-7780, and the health department posts water quality
