Housing assistance in Florida is not run by the state and it is not run from one place. It is run by around a hundred separate local housing authorities, each with its own rules, its own application and its own telephone number.
This page explains how the system is organized, points you at the federal sources, and tells you which authority covers your county.
No business advertises on this page and nothing on it is sponsored. 1stFlorida.com is privately owned and is not affiliated with HUD, the State of Florida, or any housing authority.
Whether a waiting list is open. That changes constantly, it is different at every authority, and the only accurate answer comes from the authority itself. Anything published here would be out of date before you read it.
Whether you qualify, or how long you would wait. Those are decided by the authority that takes your application, on rules that vary by program and by household.

A Housing Choice Voucher can move with you between jurisdictions. HUD calls this portability.
You cannot apply to Florida, and you cannot apply to HUD. You apply to a specific local housing authority, and each one runs its own list on its own schedule.
There are separate federal programs, run through non-profit owners rather than through the voucher system, and they are applied for separately.

Every other county. No housing authority is based in these counties. They are served by a regional agency or by a neighboring county’s authority — the two regional agencies above, Northwest Florida Regional and North Central Florida Regional, cover much of the panhandle and the north. Call the nearest listed authority, or check HUD’s Florida list.
How this table was built, and what is not verified. The agency names, program types, telephone numbers and HUD codes are taken verbatim from HUD’s Florida contact report. HUD organizes that file by CITY, not by county, so the county assignment in the first column is 1stFlorida’s own reading of which county each city sits in. Regional agencies serve more than the one county they are filed under. Nothing here has been confirmed by telephone with the authorities themselves.
The website column. HUD’s file does not carry website addresses, so every link in that column was found and checked one at a time. A row shows a link only where the authority’s own site, or its city or county government’s own page for it, was found and opened. Where it says “not verified”, no site could be confirmed; it does not mean the authority has no website. Directory and listing sites that resell this information are never linked here, however well they rank.
