How a first visit goesIn this order

1Book online, or walk in

Online, choose the Lake Washington Road shop and then the barber; the booking page lists them by name. Or walk in; the door says walk-ins are welcome.

2Bring the last cut you liked

A photograph beats describing it. Say how long it has been.

3The cut

Every barber in the shop is state certified, prices are published in full before you sit down, and the door says credit and debit cards are accepted.

4Book the next one before you leave

Same barber, same chair. The gap between cuts is shorter in Florida heat than most people expect.

What we do

Men's haircuts

Classic cuts and modern styles. A specialty haircut and a flat top are on the menu as their own items.

Fades and tapers

Their own service, and the window says military fades. Book the barber whose fades you have seen.

Beard grooming

Trims, shaping and hot towel finishes; a hot towel shave and a straight-edge shave are each their own service.

Line ups and styling

A line up on its own between full cuts.

Children

Cuts for five and under, six to twelve, and thirteen to eighteen are each on the menu.

Seniors

A seniors' cut is on the menu.

Who it is for

Anyone who has just moved to Melbourne, Viera or Palm Bay and has not found a barber yet.

A fade, a taper or a flat top from a shop that lists them as their own cuts.

Beard work with a hot towel.

A father bringing a child for a first cut; children's cuts are on the menu by age.

Seniors, who have their own cut on the menu.

Anyone who wants the same barber every time; you book by name.

Walking in without an appointment; the door says walk-ins are welcome.

The words you will hearPlain meanings

FadeHair cut so it goes from skin or very short at the bottom to longer at the top with no line anywhere. Low, mid or high says where on the head the change starts.
TaperThe sides and back shortened toward the neck and ears, but never down to the skin. Cleaner than a fade and slower to grow out.
Line-upThe hairline at the forehead, the temples and the neck cut to a sharp edge with the trimmer. It is the part that makes a cut look new for a week and then does not.
Scissor over combThe hair lifted with a comb and cut with scissors instead of clippers. Softer than a clipper cut, and the way longer sides are shaped.
TexturizingCutting into the hair so it sits with less weight and more movement, rather than in a solid shape. What stops thick hair standing up in the heat.
BalayageColor painted onto the hair by hand rather than in foils, lighter toward the ends. It grows out without a hard line, so it needs the chair less often.
TonerA light color put on after lightening to take the yellow or the orange out. It is the step people skip at the kitchen sink.
Gray blendingColor that softens the gray rather than covering it, so the change is not obvious and the regrowth does not show as a line.
